Oh the 'Flora do Brasil' must have it misspelled then, on the web both spelling ways are found too..I guess the COL has the last word on this.

it should be noted that everything on EOL using Neoregelia macwilliamsii is referencing wikipedia only but they also have a listing for Neoregelia mcwilliamsii that shows much more stable references like the Smithsonian...

Interesting.
IPNI lists Neoregelia mcwilliamsii L. B. Sm., not N. macwilliamsii
In Phytologia v. 18, the original publication (pg. 138), is spelled Neoregelia mcwilliamsii.
The ICRA Bromeliad Society International Accepted names list spells it Neoregelia macwilliamsii.
