Want to ID this plant. It's indoors in a pool area so tropical climate. Pics included. I want to make sure it's safe to kids and pets.

Croton

Croton is an ornamental, often grown in tropical gardens and as a houseplant for its colourful foliage.

It contains an oil with violently purgative and irritating qualities, which is also suspected of being a co-carcinogen. Luckily, it tastes dreadful, so accidental poisonings are rare.

Prevent children from nibbling on the attractive leaves.
Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.

Welcome! @Reimelpw. I agree it's a Croton, and I've never had any problems with kids or pets who are around it. There are many species of it and you may want a few more. I love them for anyplace where they will grow well.

Croton is a genus to which this plant no longer belongs, so googling that nickname for info can lead to wrong-ness. Looks like the popular 'Petra' cultivar of Codiaeum variegatum.
