There are a lot of seeds and some plants available on Ebay. Check out the sellers feedback if you decide to buy there.

I believe Cosmos atrosanguineus is hard to find and, sorry, I can't help but hope someone else can. Just to confirm, you do know that it won't be winter hardy where you are?

I bought it years ago from McClure and Zimmerman, nice healthy plants. They have it available.

Elaine, they say on the site that it blooms from late summer until fall - do you think it will have time to bloom in Alaska? Also the site says under shipping details that AK is a restricted state. I'm wondering if that means they just don't ship there at all or there are some specific limitations.

Could be, Sue. I don't know. If they will ship her a plant, first I'd imagine they won't ship until it's safe temperature-wise, probably in May. Then if our OP can keep the plant warm enough, they might actually see some blooms. Maybe she has a greenhouse? They have really long days up there in Alaska in the summer, even if it's not all that warm.

The year I grew it, mine bloomed in May and continued into about July when it finally gave up from the heat and humidity. But of course they can ship to Florida as soon as the plants are of a decent size so I got it in early March.

It's very pretty and really does smell like chocolate, too.

I don't care for eBay. Google offers more choice's. I tip my hat to you.

I have a former classmate who lived north of Fairbanks in Zone 1 and her growing season was only 9-10 weeks. There would have been no way she could grow this or most other ornamentals. I'm not sure where North Pole is in relation to Fairbanks, but from what I remember it's pretty close.

I wonder if the reason fewer companies ship to Alaska is because most of the state has difficult gardening conditions in the first place. If you do get hold of some seeds (or plants) please keep us up to date as to how they do!
