I've learnt three things about Salvia this holiday;

1] Salvia urica is not as tender as I thought it was. When I went to remove last years plant I noticed new growth on it. So I carefully dug it out at which point I learnt my second thing.........

2] It is a tuberous Salvia..............

It had to come out as it was in the wrong place. The reason that it was in the wrong spot is the third thing that I learnt..............

3] Salvia "Nachtvlinder" suckers like crazy! Got quite a few of these potted up now!

Greetings from England!
Yes, S. Nachtvlinder can be a bit thuggish, but the flower colour is terrific.

I only took that many as I figured that they would sell well in the village's charity plant sale which I contribute to.

I forgot to say - the first of my S.cardiophylla seed has germinated Smiling

I hope Salvia 'Nachtvlinder' finds its way over here to the U.S. someday. Gorgeous color.

A belated Welcome! , longk!

I agree, I hope that 'Nachtvlinder' makes it here, too! Lovey dubby

Does it set seed and, if so, do the seedlings resemble the mother plant at all?

I see that it is being sold as Salvia x jamensis but it looks like there is another dark blue/purple species involved, too. Shrug!

I've had a couple ex 'Mesa Purple' seedlings with similar coloration but they weren't that saturated and dark.

Marilyn,
Sadly, the darker one died and I may not have a photo. I'll have to search through old files.
The one that I currently have is lighter but still a very pretty color (to my eyes. Smiling ) We've had a week of unending thunderstorms so I may have to wait a bit to take photos of that one.

@Danita - it does set the odd seed but I never bothered with them as it is so easy from cuttings and (as it turned out) even easier from the root runners!
