Hi can you please advise what these plants are and what is causing them to die one by one? Could it be a bug on the foliage or at the roots?

Can you give further background information:
1) your general location
2) how long have the plants been planted there
3) watering frequency
4) was fertilizer applied while plants show distress
5) sun orientation in that spot
