Hi and welcome, Tammy. We need to know some things - first of all, what kind of things do you want to grow? Like vegetables, fruit, or flowers?

Second, if you could show us some pictures of the area where you'll be planting we can suggest how to get started, and better things to plant there. Things like trees close by, and how close the garden will be to the house will affect what you can grow.

Third, does the area you want to plant have a water supply close by?

Have you contacted your County Extension service? They have lots of free advice and free classes on how to start a garden, I'll bet. MSU is a great University and famous for its agriculture program. If you take a free class, often they give away free plants and /or seeds at the classes as well. (at least they do here)
