My saucer magnolia tree isn't thriving. It has lichen growing all over the branches. Is there something I can do to help it grow? it also has a lot of dead branches in the top. See photo

The lichen is merely sign of its slow growth not a cause of it. Does it get sun, water, adequate soil? A real magnolia expert will surely soon be along with advice.
