Just wanted to show everyone pictures of my persian shield plant. Got it all for 5$, minus the pot, that was 2$ from my local flower shop.

Its just lovely, Alex. I've tried with persian shield lon two occasions and failed both times. Seems kind of ridiculous in this zone, but there you have it. But then I was trying for some fancy dancy thing like what I saw in a magazine. Maybe, just putting it in a pot on its own.... Ok, so third time's a charm, right? But now I'll have to bring out my pot paints and mix up the absolutely perfect color. That's also a very fun part of gardening for me.

I love the plant and you picked a beautiful pot to set it off. I just purchased one this week because I let mine die outside last winter. I usually bring it in every Fall. It was a big plant after three years of bringing in for the winter.

Gorgeous! In the future, if it is too big, you can cut chunks off. They can take root in water too, if you want more. I have the best luck getting roots when making the cut in the semi-hardwood part of each stem.

@purpleinopp You were the one that told me how ease they root in a glass of water. I loved when you can root a plant in water.

If I had not been in such a bad mental state last winter after the death I would have cut come limbs and rooted.

I was Lucky Lowes had them this year. I do not know why these are not sold every year with the annuals.

I can totally relate to having a "giving-up" moment! And the excitement of buying a new plant is always fun. Smiling

IDK why they wouldn't sell this plant every year either, people always go nuts over pics of it. I don't even shop often enough to know what is usual anymore.

I love Persian Shield, so much so I brought it in for the winter and it did well with grow lights, and I bought another one this spring and it will come in for winter. I also have a Pentas that was in all winter, now outside again it is blooming. Your plant and your pot look just gorgeous!

I love it but haven't had any luck with it. I recently took cuttings from my daughter's plant in Austin, TX. I tried rooting it in soil, and they didn't take even though they were in my greenhouse. What is the trick of growing it? My daughter has it outside and never pays any attention to hers and it grows like a weed. Of course they are more humid than we are, and get more rain.

"Of course they are more humid than we are, and get more rain."

I think that's it. This plant will absolutely not tolerate dry soil & bringing inside for winter has always been disappointing to me in regard to appearance, though my saved plants have always stayed alive. I had several shrubs before we moved and moved one to my Mom's yard to hold until I was ready to garden where we are now but her soil is so much more dry, it didn't make it.

That is probably why it roots so easy in water because it is a water hog. I grow my plants that like a lot of water in pots without out drainage because you all have heard me say I do not like to water plants.

No doubt!

And extremely surprisingly, I have been to both L's & WM several times this spring. But have not seen any PS. Sad

I picked one up at a nursery 2 days ago. Plan on growing it in a pot. I usually grow one or two each year. i have tried overwintering them indoors but they end up looking frightful and infested with spider mites.

Gary I have a lot of house plants and I have never had spider mites or any other bugs ever. I often wonder if it is because I have steam heat and not forced air.

Lowes sold out the first week the got them in. They usually only sell them every other year they did not have them last year.
