Received in trade a few years ago as "Japanese Iris". I have it in a pot submerged in a shallow water garden probably 15 inches deep, alongside I. versicolor. Laevigata perhaps? Or something else entirely?

Thanks

Edited to add that the pot is sitting atop a cinder block, not resting on the bottom.

Hello Alana,
It looks a bit like some of the irises on the Society for Pacific Coast Native Irises website (maybe Shasta?)
http://www.pacificcoastiris.or...
When you click on a species, it takes you to a page with more information and links to more photos at the bottom of the page.

Thank you Totally_Amazing , I'll have a look at that page today.

IrisLilli, it took me years to eradicate I. pseudacorus. I'm going to examine your suggestion carefully. At first glance the blooms do appear similar to examples on the internet. If it is, the joke's on me because I love this one!

I can say these blooms are larger and the leaves are shorter and less slender than the ones on the plants I chopped, dug, dragged and burned away, but that could be attributable to growing conditions. The others were in soil, not water, and unconfined.

Thank you both.

IrisLilli, after reading descriptive material and looking at many photographs I have decided that you are correct. At first I was skeptical because of the ivory color and the lack of yellow in the signal patch in my example compared to what appears immediately available to examine online. Then I found this one.

Thank you so much! I would never have imagined it was hiding in plain sight. Hurray!
