I have recently realized that my yard is COVERED in lawn burweed. My dog will only walk the edges of the yard where it's not as thick, that's how I discovered it. From what I've gathered, it's too late to do much about it for this year, or is it? I've read to use Roundup in the fall, but I'm hoping someone has a less toxic way of getting rid of it and possibly even help for now rather than the fall.

Got some knee pads? That stuff is too low growing for the lawn mower to keep it from going to seed. The only way I know of is to pull it by hand....preferably before it goes to seed. Round up is not really an option in an infested lawn. You would have to paint it on the weed to keep it off the grass, so you may as well pull them.

Thanks ctcarol! That's what I've been doing the past week or so but my back and knees aren't liking it very well, my fingers either those pricks hurt for days! Also, it breaks off a lot instead of pulling up at the roots. I guess that still helps to get rid of it because I'm getting most of the seeds with the stem, right?

The best time I've found to pull weeds is a day or two after the rain. When wet, the soil is too heavy to let loose, and when dry, they break off.. At my age, I just sit on the lawn and ruin my nails. As you get them all, there are less seeds so it gets easier...but it takes diligence.

Supposedly a healthy, dense lawn can crowd out grass burr. You might try fertilizing and watering well when you get tired of weeding.
