I have recently noticed wholesalers and mail order companies (Van Noort and Botanus) selling "Nerine aurea" or a yellow Guernsy lily, while using a picture that looks suspiciously like a yellow Lycoris (L. aurea, L. chinensis, or L. traubii) in the catalogue. As far as I'm aware Nerine comes in shades of pink, red or salmon, but never true yellow. Is this a case of misidentification or do some companies intentionally invent new species to push plants out as novelties?

Your suspicions are right:
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and proclaiming...."WOW What a Ride!!" -Mark Frost
