Hibiscus forum: tropical hibiscus in pond?

I know many hardy hibiscus do well with their roots partially submerged in water like the H. Moscheutos pictured. A friend recently asked if you could do the same with a tropical, H. rosa-sinensis. Has anyone tried that and how did it work out?
