I'm pretty new to orchids (I have 3) and have never re-potted one. I have a pansy orchid that is going to bloom but after that I believe it needs to be re-potted. This is the second year I've had it and from what I can tell the media that it's in is looking more like soil.

I know it needs a finer mix than most orchids but I can't seem to find any for sale. What exactly is the type of media it needs to be planted in and where can I buy it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank You!

Hi Elena, and welcome. I'm in Florida so can't grow the lovely pansy orchids, but we have experts over on the Orchids forum that will surely be able to help you. I'll shout out to @Ursula who lives in NJ, so near you.

Hi, Elena!
I have a Miltoniopsis right now and I repotted mine last Spring into the kind of bark mix one usually buys to pot up Phalaenopsis. So far so good! I am not sure about the "fine mix" though.

I have some of the coarse orchid mix so I guess I'll just use that. Thanks Ursula! I thought I read somewhere that since they like more moisture than most orchids that you should plant them in a mix that is more moisture retentive. But if yours is doing well I guess it doesn't matter so much!
