I've been searching for a name for this lovely Iris that was on the property when I came here 20 years ago.. I've looked at countless pictures of possibilities, and nothing has matched.. but that didn't deter me... I bought a few over the years to compare.. and there are one or two left to try.. But here's where I am..
My NOID:

Thumb of 2017-05-03/Henhouse/6706b1 Thumb of 2017-05-03/Henhouse/c6074c

'Amigo's Guitar' is too blue/purple

'Gypsy Lullaby' is close, but doesn't have the brownish edge on the falls and hafts
Thumb of 2017-05-03/Henhouse/617928

I was hopeful that 'Sail Master' was going to be the one... but alas.... although it has the edging, it's too purple/blue...
Thumb of 2017-05-03/Henhouse/863b44

I have yet to try 'Dutch Master', which doesn't look like it's got the blue on the tip of the beard..

'Gala Madrid' is too bright

I think 'Milestone' is my best bet at this point..

Debra, I can't remember if the rhizome I sent you has bloomed.. I was thinking you matched it to 'Sail Master', but I'm getting pretty good at mis-remembering things.. perhaps it *was* Milestone..??

In any case, it's been a journey.. All these Iris were instrumental in breeding in the 60's and 70's with hundreds and hundreds of offspring.

.. and then there's this plicata
Gosh, what a great, reliable grower this has been.. I've moved it all around the garden because it looks so good with everything.. For years I thought it was 'Stepping Out' until someone pointed out the differences.
Thumb of 2017-05-03/Henhouse/f35bd3

'Stepping Out'
See, not even close...
Thumb of 2017-05-03/Henhouse/5b4370

Someone thought it might be 'Classic Look'... nope CL is lighter, flower is smaller, beard is lighter, and opens later
Thumb of 2017-05-03/Henhouse/14d0cd

'First Stitch' has a broader band.
Thumb of 2017-05-03/Henhouse/caac52

'Patriotic Heart' has not bloomed yet for me.. but remains in the running

Another suggestion is 'Loop the Loop', but I think it's too tall and the form is wrong...

I know chances are slim of matching a purple plicata, but it's fun (sort of Whistling ) trying..

'Harvest Faire' has been suggested as a possibility... Unfortunately, most of the pictures are from BlueJ.. and I know their colors have been off in the past... I'm not sure.. It may be a little more modern ('97) than I was thinking... Might be worth a try to order though...

The fifth picture here from Country Delights has the color match to the standards on mine.

Sherry, I think we were talking about Milestone, but they don't seem to match to me. Here is my Milestone, then the one from you.

The best part of that Plicata is how narrow the band is and how clean the rest of the Falls look. Lovey dubby

Sherry,
Your first Noid is like "Fresh as Paint". I have only ever seen it in the Yarrabee Catalog and I found another image online:

Andrea,
I saw your picture of 'Creative Stitchery' the other day and thought that it might be a possibility.. It's the right height and bloom time..

Oh. My. Gosh. Robin!! I think you nailed it.
Interesting that I can only find it on Aussie sites given that it was hybridized about 40 minutes away from me...

This one is just blooming.
Any thoughts on this NOID? Really crazy looking with stiff horns on the end of orange beards with that slight flush up the standards. Very Old Gold in color. Got it from either Dee or PNW sale as Sassy Tart. Never have seen anything like it before.

Does anyone recognize this iris? It has pbf if that helps narrow it down.

Thumb of 2017-05-04/UndertheSun/05c6e1 Thumb of 2017-05-04/UndertheSun/402aec

The close up of the beard is more true to color than the bloom photo.

Bottom right and took 4 years to bloom. Probably from Shreiner's but I can't find it on their site.

Wow, Is that Mary Frances next to it? It reminds me of 'Sooner Serenade', but doesn't have the lighter edge on the falls. How long has your SIL had it?

She's had that for about 15 years, I think. The one next to it is Full Tide. My clay soil makes it more lavender.

It doesn't have the band or ruffles Sooner Serenade does.

Edit. oh I see now maybe you have an ID. I think that looks grand! Tall Bearded Iris (Iris 'Fresh as Paint')
says '71, so even though, hard to find now maybe, back in its day it may have been a common one sold more widely. There is no photo of it in the database unfortunately.
I agree on Rare Treat also, I was going to post that but see someone else suggested that as well.

I know I'm late to the party, but to burst your bubble, Milestone has a beard that is all one color and yours has a beard that changes color... so it does not match your NOID. ?

I know it's a long shot but the photos of this one show it in several shades of purple including a light lavender. It's a cross of Rare Treat and American Classic. It sometimes has the purple stripe up the standard and sometimes has the wider rim on the standards. The thing that caught my attention was the full ruffled falls. The database photos vary quite a bit.
