The holiday cactus are truly magical to watch. They really do follow the daylight and dark of the season. It's almost goose bumpy the way they know. I had a red and pink one but gave them to my dd that has a sunroom and they look much better at her house Thumbs up

Hey ... you did well. Thumbs up I don't get over to the blogs much but I saw this pop up on the list of Recent Threads and am glad I did. I do get how exciting it is when one of those CC blooms. That's the way I feel too. Now if I had only followed my and Sherry's advice I'd have lots of blooms this year on my four larger plants in the dining room. Too many distractions back when I needed to move them for their natural day/long night period. I have one little bloom on my plants upstairs but down in the garage are two containers of cuttings and they have produced numerous blooms that I don't see much being they are down there over-wintering and I'm up here over-wintering. What's wrong with this picture? Rolling on the floor laughing Anyway, thanks for letting us know about your success. Thumbs up

Hey Vic, I had no idea what color this one was, but turns out to be really red. Very pretty. Good for you, you can visit your CC occasionally!

I was going to post to a thread on your article, Song, but here you are, so now you know!! Thanks for your help. I might have ignored it to death if you hadn't written Green Grin!

I have a Christmas cactus that won't be blooming for Christmas. Sad In fact, it is looking really sick. I had it sitting in my kitchen window, maybe not a good place, and I think I may have been watering it too much. Time to give it some TLC. My son gave it to me a few years ago, part is white and part is red.

Can you put it in an unused room for awhile? Near a window where it will get only natural light and no water for a few weeks? It might force it into bud, why don't you try and see? I don't think it will hurt it.

I think mine stayed in the unused room for maybe about 6 or 7 weeks. Buds popped as soon as I brought it back to the kitchen.

Don't have an unused room, boy do I wish I did. I guess I could put it in my office by the window and do my computing in the dark. I'll refuse to give it any water even if it begs me. Hilarious! Can I take a cutting off of it and start a new plant? Oh how I wish I had taken better care of it. I have a friend living in Texas, they travel a lot and if they are going to be gone for a very long period of time she takes her CC with her. Well she did when they traveled by trailer. I guess she really didn't have to worry about it too much.

I don't know, Pegi. Some say water sparingly during the natural daylight time. Others say ignore. Mine was in there for several weeks and I never really thought about it until I knew my daughter was coming home and would need her room.

Good luck with yours. I'm sure you could take a cutting now and start over, I just started over with all those things that I wanted to save for outside next summer: coleus, for example.
