Cool! I'll make it a sticky. It was so windy here last night that I'll be picking up branches all day. Is that pretty girl 'Paradise'? |

Yup.. Went through some older pix to find a pretty rose for this post. Spent most of the day either in bed or asleep on the couch, this cold sux. Watching it snow all day.. Only got about 6-8" total but I'll take it!! Saw in the news the horrible winds... Hope everyone is ok!! Roses are one of my passions! Hortico roses arrived yesterday. Planting today. They actually look pretty good. I'll post pics later. There are two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle - Albert Einstein. |
At the risk of annoying all of you, I have to report that Sue and I went nursery hopping today and nearly boiled. We had dressed in layers like sensible ladies, but the temperature went up to 76 degrees and we had to start stripping very soon. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Today it hit 47 & melted about half my snow. As I type this it's 19degs F and feels like 0. Tonight it's to get down into the single digits and supposed to snow. Tomorrow it *may* hit 25deg F. *sigh* must be nice.. Most nurseries only carry Christmas crap this time of year & then shut down for 4-8 weeks until we're past the deep freeze. The nurseries here are mostly full of winter-blooming stuff, like Cyclamen, Primroses, and Pansies. I bought several Clematis vines, though, lots of different Nemesias, Calibrachoas, Petunias, and Omphalodes, and one whole flat each of Primula acaulis in various colors and pretty ruffly pansies in various colors. |
Oh it was great fun, but I am pooped! We walked though so many greenhouses, after a while, I got so overheated and light headed, I couldn;t even look anymore! The Calibrachoas were especially pretty, some great new varieties, one especially that I fell in love with! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v... My gardening Blog! wow, what a concept.. petunias in the winter? Roses are one of my passions! Just opened, my Etsy shop (to fund my rose hobby)! http://www.etsy.com/shop/Tweet... |
Petunias are pretty much perennials here. Sometimes our rainy season drives them nuts and they almost disappear, but most of the time they come back year after year. |

Petunias are a winter flower here. Our summer heat usually kills them. Porkpal |
They do fine here in summer because we have dry heat. Moisture's the thing that does them in, I think. I might keep all of my new petunias and calibrachoas under an overhang for the winter. |

I am happy with these, so far, from Hortico. They were well packed and kept moist. Have some soaking now to finish planting. ![]() There are two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle - Albert Einstein. |

Janice - very nice roses you got there!! ![]() ![]() ![]() Roses are one of my passions! Just opened, my Etsy shop (to fund my rose hobby)! http://www.etsy.com/shop/Tweet... |
Janice, don't soak them the way you'd soak roses grafted onto Dr. Huey. Any more than half an hour can only hurt them. |
I forgot to say, Janice, that those look very, very good. And the roots look good: They aren't short; they've just been nicely pruned for planting, which is always a good idea. Now I'm really looking forward to getting mine. |
