I am enjoying my recent copy of BH&G when I see the words "Best in Zones 5-8S/9W." What do the S&W refer to? South and West or summer/winter or...??? Please clarify for me. Isn't that a gorgeous roselily bouquet?

I noticed the same thing in 'The White Farm' catalog. This is how they explain it:

That's good that the vendors are giving specifics. On the west coast we have the Sunset Western Garden zones that break it down even more, and I see they have done the same on the east coast, but what about those that live in the middle? Maybe Sunset will get there some day.

There's a bump in the middle. Everybody rolls towards one coast or the other. Smiling

Yep, but I can assure you that Fla. and Ca. don't get the same weather, and those folks on the bump have very different needs...The west coast has 20 something different Sunset zones. There are a lot of folks that live on that bump, and they have got to have lots of (micro) zones that we don't have on the coasts...aside from the ocean influence. Well maybe not lots....
