This is a diffuclt one, I bought the bulbs from a small nursery onine here which specialise in species bulbs, but they don't have it listed now although it comes up in a google. On Pacific Bulb Society there is only Narcissus tazetta listed but showing some natural wild subspecies or forms. http://www.pacificbulbsociety.... The RHS has two places which offered this, one being miniaturebulbs where I got mine from, the other is a specialist grower which I know has been in the business for a long time and passed down through the family. They haven't got it listed now either, mine didn't live so I guess their's didn't do well but they do keep old varieties going and from what I have previously read they know their stuff. http://apps.rhs.org.uk/rhsplan... THe RHS states the name is not found in literature, but they don't state the name is not accepted. http://apps.rhs.org.uk/horticu... Daffseek has it listed as 'Odoratus' and is a tazetta species, it sounds to be the same one as the apricot scent and being found on the Isles of Scilly was mentioned in the description when I bought it. This is giving it a capital as though it is a named hybrid, which doesn't seem correct to me if it was 'found' on the Isles of Scilly ( a small group of islands off the south west tip of Cornwall England) None of the photos look like mine, but I feel the suppliers do offer correctly named bulbs. http://daffseek.org/query/quer... The flowers were very small but the stem grew fairly tall.. ![]() |

I've decided to ask for an entry for Narcissus tazetta var. odoratus, the RHS does have it listed and doesn't say it's not accepted. |

Thanks Anthony, as it was found here originally and there's people who have passed on what they know through generations in the business I would say it's a fair bet. Breeders of these rarer bulbs are sure to share their knowledge worldwide too! There's some people in the business here who are very savvy. A named 'cultivar' has a capital letter as they use on daffseek, but this is not a cultivar, it's a variety of the species. |

According to the'yoda' of miniature daffodils, definately not 'Narcissus tazetta var odoratus', .[which he drew a fine freehand sketch of] but all is not lost,.,.what you might have is 'Narcissus Odorus Rugulosus'[campernelle]. which he gave a full description of,.,.So i even learned something as well-Anthony lily freaks are not geeks! |

Well I searched for that Anthony, I very much doubt it. Broadleigh bulbs have it and it's totally different! Many people here who have these nurseries are real plants people, often with horticultural qualifications. http://www.broadleigh-bulbs-au... http://www.paghat.com/narcissu... http://www.canadaplants.ca/dis... http://www.plantpress.com/plan... http://www.classicdaffodils.co... Sorry, but I do trust the people who sold it to have it correctly named. |

That's OK, I always make sure myself anyway and I appreciate anyone's input. And your Tas Devil big growling face with gimongous teeth hasn't scared me one little bit! He (or she) is quite cute. ![]() |
