My first thought was that it reminded me more of Platycodon too but I'm not real sure. Here are a few database photos for comparison:

Platycodon (Balloon Flower)

Heliopsis (False Sunflower)

Whatever it is, I see in the 3rd photo a shoot coming up a few inches from the original clump, so keep a close eye on it because it may have invasive roots!

The saw-toothed edges of the leaves remind me of something, but what? I'll keep trying to remember.

It *almost* reminds me of hydrangea, but unless it was a really small plant last year or they cut it back to ground level, we'd see last year's stems sticking up above the new growth.

Here's a picture of my emerging Platycodon. It always takes me a minute to remember what the heck it is as the appearance changes so much as it grows. I'm not sure this is what your plant is.

The plant definitely reminds me of a balloon flower now and it kind of rings a bell as something I planted last year. I'll know for sure when it flowers. Thanks everyone for the suggestions and help!
