This morning was my local community garden's annual plant sale. As has been the case the last few years, I sent over some potted cuttings and divisions of miscellaneous garden plants, and some Daylilies. But, what I sent the most of...were Irises. To be exact, this year (and with a TON of prep help!), I was able to send over 65 named Iris and 13 with no ID (but with photographs) Iris. Which included 379 named rhizomes, and 94 no ID rhizomes. Plus, 33 "no clue, no ID" rhizomes, um, from where I kinda lost tags or the squirrels carried them off...um, yeah, the squirrels did it... Whistling Whistling

Here is the best part: Of those 65 named Iris, 48 came to me through trades, for postage, or as outright gifts. From you. One or more of those Irises came from each of you named below. I can't thank you all enough for being so generous with your time and your gardens. Your efforts are deeply appreciated by me, by the community garden volunteers, and (although indirectly Big Grin ) by the folks at the associated food pantry who benefit from the garden's output.

I wanted to say to each of you: Thank you, thank you, a thousand times, thank you. Lovey dubby Lovey dubby Lovey dubby Lovey dubby Lovey dubby Lovey dubby

Forgot to ask permission to show this volunteer's face, but she was one of the prep helpers, and was at my house three separate times working to get everything ready to go. // The pictured bags contain Iris rhizomes, and represent about half of what was sent over. Smiling

You're very welcome, Deb ........want some more ? Sticking tongue out !! As a person's "Garden Grows", and the "have list" gets longer and longer, it's get's harder and harder to "individually credit" each, and every Iris Buddy , Hybridizer, and Vendor, who helped make it so successful, and I think we ALL greatly appreciate our " Iris Buddies", for their friendship, help, advice, AND plant donations, and, it's *nice* to know that one can be a part of making the world a little more colorful !

I talked with four of the five main volunteers from the garden today. The goals of the sale were to bring in enough funding to cover the annual operating budget (well, yeah Sticking tongue out ); plus have enough to put in a sorely needed rain barrel/drip irrigation system. They didn't sell out, or even close to it, as I was hoping might happen, and a lot of unsold rhizomes were brought back to me this afternoon. Howsomeever. HowsomeEVER. Big Grin While an exact accounting won't be made until later this week...they all think they reached BOTH goals! Aaaaannnnnd, about 90% of what they made came from the Iris and Daylilies I sent over.

Woo and, I say, Hoo!!!
Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!

More fun parts: One of the buyers drove 40 miles to get to the Iris at the sale. Blinking I know, I was shocked, too. Her friend wanted to come, as well, but was committed elsewhere. That friend is a teacher. As I have two teaching certifications, but never got beyond my student teaching semester, and know now I would never have survived any classroom full of teenagers, I have a galaxy-sized soft spot for teachers who can and do get in the trenches. So I made arrangements with the woman at the sale for her friend to go over the list of what is left and I will send it to her for postage. She gets pretties, I get satisfaction, and the garden gets more publicity which will help NEXT year's sale. Right? Isn't that the best stuff EVER?!? Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin (Yeah, I get excited about it. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing )

Yes, that is the best stuff ever! Successful sale + happy customer + great publicity makes for better future sales. Everyone wins. Hurray! But someone has to do the hard work of digging, washing, trimming, labeling, drying, sorting, etc. Not to mention the years of nurturing and watering the plant and potting up pieces throughout the year. That was all you Debra with a few Angel 's to assist you. There should be a way to clone you. Big Grin
