Trees and Shrubs forum: need advice on these trees

I bought a house a year ago and have been trying to fix these guys since. Somebody told me deer ate the bottoms of them when the house was vacant, but they havent been around since I moved in. i cant get the bottom to grow much, i have tried fertilizer spikes, watering. I would like them to widen out. Do i crop the tops off? I have no clue.

Welcome!

I would not cut the tops off, but just give them time. I've seen them come back eventually from deer damage. Make sure, though, that the deer are not coming in at night when you aren't watching! If they are you would probably want to spray them (the plants not the deer Hilarious! ) with repellent. I've had to resort to wrapping the plants in winter just because of the deer.

You agree that deer did do that
