I have a Dwarf Crimson Barberry in my yard, and I noticed today there are what look like maple leaves growing out of the bottom. I assumed they were some kind of weed and started pulling but they have a strong root and I can't get it out. I was able to pull the leaves but I know they'll just come back.
Any advice? What kind of weed could it be?

I pulled most of the leaves before I thought to ask. They were as tall as the bush though.

Hi @Benny529
It looks as if a maple tree seed has germinated in your barberry bush. If you can't pull the tree seedling up, just keep cutting its stem down as close to the ground as possible, and eventually it will give up. You could also try painting the maple leaves with a systemic weed-killer such as Roundup, but be careful not to get any of the weed-killer on the barberry.

Interesting. Thanks for your reply. I'll cut it down and keep an eye on it. I'd hate to mess up and kill the barberry.
