I got this D. WarneckII (right?) at swap. See the major kink? I guess it has been in water. Those gorgeous leaves!
Would you pot as it is or make cuttings?

Ya, as it grows and ages, it will give it more character than the more formal straight upright growth you normally see. I say pot it as is. Thumbs up

I do things to my Dracs to get weird bends & curls in the trunks on purpose (and to a couple palms, why should my plants look just like everyone else? Yawn.) That's a nice piece! Since it hasn't been potted yet, you can decide the angle at which the stem emerges from the soil.

The urge to remove those dead leaf stumps is strong. I just can't quite reach though...

:)

@purpleinopp What sort of things do you do to your dracs to give them 'weird' kinks and such? II would love to experiment with some of my dracs. Green Grin!

I put some sticking sideways out of the pot so the tips will need to make a turn back upward, curl them around each other or objects, don't turn a pot while inside all winter, on a case-by-case basis. I want to have heavily manipulated, as unusual as possible woody plants, in the spirit of Axel Erlandson.

Oh I love the works of Axel Erlandson! Saw his remaining living plant sculptures at Gilroy Gardens a few years ago.

Finally got around to adding a few examples of some new maniupulations & some progress shots.

Forcing a loop on a Ficus branch.

Regrowth of beheaded Drac. Usually I take off the whole foliated part of stem, but I did this differently just for observational purposes.

'Janet Craig Compacta' planted at a severe lean to force a bend in the trunk.

Several individuals planted that way in this pot, a collection of 9-10 diff Dracs.

TYVM!

This recently beheaded trunk looks like it might make 3 new tops. It too soon to tell if all will grow, but it's thinking about it! This trunk is on my oldest plant that still has 2 foliated tops, so it should have the energy for it.
