Mary,

If we ever really move to the Oregon coast, I will grow a boatload of those! So far, we are still here. I do not think that they would like our hot summers here.

This just bloomed for me in the shady garden...

Holy smokes, a true blue Columbine? That's awesome, as is the Agapanthus! I could see doing an echo with the Lithodora and the Agapanthus.
Also, the Lithodora blooming at the same time as the Meconopsis makes for a tempting combo. If I were brave enough to try (another) Meconopsis.

My Dutch Iris are just a bit behind yours- will bloom in several days, I think. We will see if the Poppy is still in bloom. I really like the Dutch Iris, I bought a bagful several years ago-so cheap! It was a mix of colors but some look just like your 'Blue Magic'. I just stuck them in here and there, and they are trouble free, usually blooming just when the spring riot is done in my yard so I have something to look at for a few weeks before the summer bloomers get going. Then the foliage is sort of ugly but there just isn't that much of it and everything else is growing great by then so it does not matter.

I had been trying for a blue theme garden, failing miserably, but the Iris are blue and so is the Lithodora there, in a sunny spot. Unfortunately the Meconopsis need shade. I made a little tiny raised bed just on the east side of the house in a protected spot (also near the water spigot). Even so, they look kind of crispy in late summer, I might put up some shade cloth this summer.
