The stems on my "Cheerfulness" don't seem able to support the weight of the flowers this year; the flowers are flopped over to the ground. Any ideas on what could cause this? Someone suggested too rich a soil but that is definately not the case here. Could it be too much moisture? The clump is near a spot that gets overflow from a rain barrel but I thought it was far enough away.

Too much wind and rain will sometimes do that to my double Daffodils. The ones in full sun are usually shorter and fare better than the ones in partial shade.
But is this what happened to yours? I don't know. Shrug!

Thanks Lilli for your comments. We have had some fairly windy days but not a lot of rain so far this spring. Pretty much full sun especially in the spring. Guess I'll see how they perform next year!

Sometimes I see this when we get exceptionally warm spring weather that makes the stems grow fast and therefore somewhat weak. Then they don't stand up as well to wind and rain.

Thanks Neal; we did have an abnormally warm and early spring this year. Guess I will see what next year brings. I certainly don't want to complain about the early spring, winter here is way too long! Thumbs down

Abnormally early spring here too this year. I neglected to mention above that the Cheerfulness daffs here flopped over like that. We had a double whammy, first when the daffs were budding and several already blooming we had 2 nights of temps in the teens Fahrenheit, which damaged buds and stems on many varieties. Then very warm weather that prompted them to grow fast.

But I'm with you, I'll take an early spring any year!
