Photos of a seedling I am growing of Merremia aurea, and of a flower that appeared on an older plant last year.

Joseph, do they flower first year?
It happens in a flash, but the memory of it last forever. It can not be borrowed or stolen, and it is of no earthly good until it is given away. So if in your hurry you meet someone who is too weary to smile, leave him one of yours, for no one needs a smile quite as much as he who has none to give...

I don't know. The flowers I got last year were on a much older plant, maybe 5 or 7 years old. Maybe the root has to get to a certain level of fatness before it will bloom. Ipomoea macrorhiza bloomed in year 3. I got flowers in year 1 for an Ipomoea albivenia. How lucky we we be with this species? Smiling

My macrorhiza took about 4 years then I lost it to an early freeze and it didn't come back after I brought it in.
I'm having a hard time fighting spider mites Thumbs down

That's unfortunate about the mites. I usually have mite problems in winter. Haven't had any this year. There has been sporadic outbreaks of aphids on Ipomoea albivenia in the garage.

I missed the first flower. It opened up after I left for work. 4 more buds to go, maybe I will be around when one pops open.

The spent flower still had nice color.
