Finally giving in to having total knee replacement Wednesday. I was most worried about having to get up to walk shortly after returning from OR. I will be drugged and probably have a dreaded hospital gown on...that opens in the back. I decided I am the captain of my ship and I will not wear a gown as I shuffle along the wing. I will be there a bit longer as they are going to realign my bowed out leg, also at the knee. I bought some pull on shorty sweat pants and some t-shirts instead. I hope my physical therapists appreciate my sense of humor.

Thanks for well wishes. I will probably be a real "cranky pants" for a while. I called for an appt. last July. Was seen in October, and surgery scheduled for May. Guess they were giving me time to change my mind! Surgeon is worth waiting for.

Good luck and stay strong. You will be cranky for a bit. You'll have every right to be- you'll also be glad you had the surgery after everything is said & done. I wish you well with the procedure & a quick recovery. Group hug

Thanks, Debbie. I was more worried about my DH having to sit in the waiting room for hours, not to mention overnight. Asked him if he'd consider getting a motel room right next to the hospital. He surprised me by saying that might work out. We will see.

I'm sure your husband would do anything for you, without hesitation. I'm sure he would do whatever was necessary to support you in every way possible- mentally and physically. He knows how stressed you are and that can have an effect how long it takes you to recuperate. He's got your six, and so do all of us here!

@ChefDebbie Surgery went well. Ice is my new best friend! Got me up and walking shortly after waking. Had the best nurses coming in and out. I walked the halls with my PT and then I was up and moving whenever I felt like it. DD stayed with the first night. Got home late Friday afternoon. PT began Saturday. Today I went upstairs alone because I wanted to wash my hair. PT decided I could stop using walker, and get a cane, because I really didn't need the walker. I have a cane collection, so we picked one out. I don't think I'll use it either, tho.

DH has been helpful too.He has been spending most time downstairs because last year, he missed the bottom stair and fractured his ankle. Sooooo....today, as PT was leaving we heard him tell the cleaning lady to let me know he's going upstairs to nap. Two minutes later, we hear a crash. He went up four stairs, forgot something, so BACKED down the stairs, missing the last one. Fell on his hip and elbow, cutting his arm. Didn't want me to call Doctor, so we will see how he is in the morning. If he is okay, I'm going to kill him!

Hope he is ok! So glad to hear that you're doing better. Keep up with all the pt, and then you can put all this behind you. My mom has to get a total hip replacement. I'd go to see her, but simply cannot afford it.

@ChefDebbie The hip replacement is supposed to be easier and shorter recovery. Hope your mom does it soon.

@Mutisia Thank you for kind words. I am doing great, I think.
DH had to use my walker to get out of bed and chair today. I had to pull out the big guns and call our daughter to convince him call his doctor. He has an appt. today at 3:45. The PT will be here to torture me at 3:30, so our daughter will take him to appt. I can't drive for another couple of weeks.

Gosh! There's a bit of mobility issues over there! I hope your DH will be ok soon. Keep us posted. But so glad your surgery was a success. Work hard at PT for best results. Have you worn any of your Tshirts?

What is it with our stubborn husband's? The other night my DH fell. Instead of using the "safe" bathroom, the one with all the bars and rails to hold on to, he ventured out and tried to use the powder room, the one that looks nice for guests, no bars. He slipped, wedged his bad leg undee the cabinet by the kick board. I iced him down so no visible bruising. But her was unable to use the leg for 3 days. Worse, he nicked the nice wallpaper and dinged the paint in the powder room. Sighing! We do our best, right? Keep on healing! Group hug

I have worn all my t-shirts, including one that reads "Leave Me Alone" in giant letters! I'm sure the PT hasn't quite figured me out. She is all business and raises chickens. I'm all sarcastic and raising hell. As she was leaving yesterday, she said, " Tomorrow we'll go out front and practice walking on the sidewalk." I told her she could watch me now as she drove away, because I was going across the street to pick up vacationing neighbors' mail. She just shook her head...

Hope you DH learned his lesson about using grab bars. I know mine hasn't yet. We're waiting to see if he cracked anything when he fell. It was after 5 when they took the X-rays yesterday.

Stairs are dangerous. One day I, too will outgrow the stairs! Can you say "install elevator?" Why is getting old so hard on our bones?

We already have a spot for an elevator in the garage. I think I'd rather sell and get a one story. An elevator isn't always a selling point for a young couple with children.
DH doesn't have a broken bone from his fall, thank goodness.

Good news forjunby and you!. Keep up the calcium intake. Just tasted a new yogurt, Aussie style, Noosa. It reminds me of how yogurt used to taste! They removed everything from the new yogurts (fats, calories, etc) including taste! Noosa also has active yogurt cultures.

Just home from surgeon's ofc. Pretty amazed that I recovered from the surgery last Wed. without too much pain. The before and after X-rays were cool. No stockings, no bandage, justPTand ice.
DH took some ribbing at the hospital for taking my walker away from me. I didn't mention that he also has been using my cane....even though there are others he could have chosen from.
----
Got sidetracked by PT this afternoon. I thought I'd be sleeping all day, everyday! Ha! I'll try to find Noosa. Not much appetite.
