I posted the following on the rose forum as well:

Hello All! So long story short my Nana was known for her roses. Folks to would drive to her house so they too could enjoy her rose garden. I planted a beautiful 'Outta the Blue' shrub last year in my memory garden only to find out that her absolute favorite was yellow roses not purple D'Oh! Please help...I need some suggestions for a yellow reblooming med size shrub...prefer fragrance over looks but if I can get both Crossing Fingers! Hurray! Thanks in advance for you help and belated Happy Mother's Day!!

Although i do not grow it, I have heard great things about Julia Child Rose. Quick repeats, beautiful flowers with a licorice scent and disease resistant too.

I got a Julia Childs 2 years ago (NARR prize), thought it seemed more citrus than licorice, but it was a nice scent and a pretty rose. It spent its first year in a big container, planted it in the ground last year, so it should be ready to give a show this year. Unfortunately, I thought at the time it was a climber, so it's in the wrong spot, and I'm not yet sure where it could go instead. I'd be proud for it to grow in memory of your Nana. I know we keep "meaning to" get together, so if you'd like it I'll pot it up again and pass it along to you when we do!

I recently saw 'Honey Perfume' on a top ten fragrant rose list, however (and Julia Childs didn't make the list).

Awwwe Jill - as always, you are so sweet!! As beautiful as that gorgeous rose is...I'm trying to find the old rose scent or spicy. That being said...we do need to get a date down....for sure!!! Group hug

BTW, when a rose is described as having a strong damask fragrance - what does that mean? Is 'damask' similar or the same as the old time rose scent?

I think so.. I think damask roses are an old type of rose, and they have that "old rose" scent. Bourbon roses are another classic-scented old type.

Chantell, most of the yellow roses that are claimed to have strong fragrance have lemon, fruity fragrance. My nose cannot detect the fragrance, sometimes just barely, certainly not strong. I have Julia Child, it is pretty, but not strongly fragrant. My Doris Day did not make it. Here is a catalog from Edmundsroses that has lots of fragrant roses. And you can also look according to color. https://www.edmundsroses.com/P....
For my nose, the most fragrant roses are Papa Meilland (dark red), The McCartney Rose (beautiful pink), and Ebb Tide or Twilight Zone (I do not remember which). The roses that to me are fragrant are usually pink, red, and purplish, and that is why most of my roses are that color. I will go to a rose garden today. Will write again which yellow rose is fragrant. This garden has heirloom roses. He has open garden tours on Memorial Weekends. 9-noon.
Better yet, you can go there yourself. I am going there with Arlington Rose Foundation. Info:

Hi Chantell: I went to the garden, but never arrived there. 3.7 miles before I arrived, my car died and refuse to start, so I had my car towed to the gas station where my car mechanic is (he used to work for Don Beyer Volvo). So I cannot tell you which of the yellow roses that Nick Weber has that are fragrant to me.----Sorry--

What I would like to inform those who are not so strong any longer: Amazon has DeWit Rose aerator for sale for $28.00, which is a 2-tine garden fork (9 1/2" tines), which is my favorite helper to dig for weeds and also to get stones out, to dig my 20/24 x 24-inch holes for my roses. My first one I bought a lot more expensive, from Gardener's Supply on sale for $85.00! I thought I had a good deal! A similar one from Sneeboer is $114.00. They probably only have 13 left after I bought mine. And also from Amazon I ordered the Root slayer that has "sawing teeth" on both sides and tapered down narrower to the end and ending in a upside down V. It has red round (circle) handle and is made from steel from top to bottom. I think it was $44.00. I am using both of them to dig the holes for the roses.

@tantefrancine thank you so much for all of that amazing information! Sorry to hear about the car though...never a good time for cars to die. Hope it's been repaired for you without breaking the bank. I hate paying for car repairs when there's so many plants or photo equipment that could be bought instead Rolling on the floor laughing

Hope you told Amazon ASAP. They usually have some clout, even with their "marketplace" sellers. We've occasionally scored similar %-off savings with their lightening deals, but you're probably right about this deal being too good to be true. Sad Hope you can get your money back, although I know you'd rather have the rose aerator!

Very pretty too, based on the J&P photo.
How is it for vigor and disease resistance?

@Critter: I got the money back. Thanks for your concern. I waited for a long time, hoping that it still would come. Seller sent a tracker but it was a bogus. It just went so far and then stopped. I wonder why people enjoy doing things like that. Nothing else to do I guess. Do they get the money?

I'm not sure if Amazon is always successful at recovering $ -- I think sometimes they give refunds and just "eat" the loss.
