When it comes to irises, I'm anybody's, I think they are gorgeous, but since I've been on NGA, I've gotten a huge kick out of knowing there are irises named Cinnamon Girl and Stairway to Heaven! I planned on planting iris beds here, and I'd really like to use the ones that are named after songs I love (OK, Stairway played out for me a while ago, but Cinnamon Girl...oh that Mr. Young!) Would you all mind telling me what other ones there are, if they'll grow OK in my zone, and perhaps reputable sources for purchase, and anything else you'd like to share with someone who doesn't know what she's doing?? Smiling
Thank You!

Hello Abbey,
The first one that comes to my mind "I Gotta Feeling" (a catchy song by the Black Eyed Peas that will be in your head all day now Sticking tongue out )

It is listed on tbfinder.com
http://www.tbfinder.com/plants...

Unfortunately, I cannot give you any advice about growing irises in your zone as I reside in Australia.

Thank You! everybody!

Thanks Robin, I'm glad you're enjoying it, this is going to cost me a stone fortune!!!! Hilarious!

A couple of adjustments -- chicken or the egg, I know you're conditioned to pick Kylie ( Hilarious! ) but Locomotion is Little Eva, and Gloria Jones is Tainted Love (unless there's a "Where Did Our Love Go" Iris to go with it, but I'd get that for the Supremes!) Hilarious!

I started going through that list, tried a few random searches, I'm having the devil's own time finding one for my Stones, best Beatles one I've come by is Blue Jay Way, but I found Immortality for Pearl Jam, YES, Delta Lady for Leon Russell and Joe Cocker, who will overlap on Cry Me a River with Julie London, Bye Bye Love for the Everly Brothers...

And I found one called Bonus Bucks, THAT'S LUCY!!!!! Rolling on the floor laughing

I wanted one for Joni Mitchell, and there's one called Blue Coyote, which is the combination of two of her songs, but it was like 25 bucks, don't they have one called Hejira for $5?????

Seriously, can someone who doesn't know what she's doing grow these OK? And all those growers in that database you gave me are legit, have quality bulbs?

Tak, Lilli! I was deciding on Penny Lane, but Strawberry Field would also acknowledge the memorial in Central Park to John, so...

You are all fantastic, thank you so much -- I am in the process of printing out the tb listing Robin gave me so I can look at it at my leisure (i.e., while I'm supposed to be working), but so far, my list looks like this:

Wild Horses -- Stones

Peggy Sue -- Buddy Holly

Cry Me A River -- Joe Cocker and Julie London

For Your Love -- Yardbirds Wish there was a Yardbirds one from when Jeff Beck was in the band.

Bell Bottom Blues -- Eric/Derek and the Dominoes, but those last two didn't have pictures where I was looking Grumbling

Baby I Love You -- Aretha

Like I said, there's Immortality for Pearl Jam, but there's also an Evenflow, but there was a problem with it, I don't remember what it was!

Exodus -- Bob Marley

Delta Lady -- Leon Russell

Bye Bye Love -- Everly Bros.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow -- Judy Garland

Baby Love -- Supremes

They have several for the Who, I have to give them a better look, but I have Pinball Wizard carnations, so probably leaning closer to My Generation or Happy Jack.

Sherry, there's a Carry On for CS&N, and if I'm going to have Cinnamon Girl for Neil, then perhaps I should't go with Deja vu because he's already represented (but I'm stuck for the Byrds and Buffalo Springfield and the Hollies...)

I AM on 3/4 of an acre Green Grin!

Purple Haze for Jimi

Cry Baby for Janis

Not sure if I'm going to do one for Elton, but if I do, it will be Tiny Dancer, I associate Rocket Man with a very bad time in my childhood...

Whole Lotta Love -- Zeppelin

They seem to stop dead at Pearl Jam, chronologically, and I'm on the hunt for ones for Dylan, Ray Charles, Ronstadt (which should be easier because she recorded so many covers), Joan Baez, Sly and the Family Stone, Joni, Faces, Otis Redding, Stevie, more Motown than just the Supremes, my last acorn to anyone who can find one named after a Velvelettes song Rolling on the floor laughing , Carly Simon, Patsy Cline, Hank Williams SENIOR, OK, now I'm going off the rails, but as always, I'd appreciate hearing any of your ideas, and thank you SO much! Smiling

Whenever I see an iris (or plant) that reminds me of a song, that song pops into my head while I'm gardening. In your garden, my head would a mess. Hilarious! It would be like sitting next to someone in the car who keeps changing the radio station.

Don't forget Black Magic Woman for Santana.

And I am personally fond of Get Back for the Beatles because it is a stunning iris. Makes me sing "get back Loretta" every time I walk by it. Hee!

Like Debra - I would have suggested Larry Lauer as all his iris are song titles.

Abby,

As a novice you probably don't know, but if an iris was not popular it may disappear from commerce in five to ten years. There are several commercial sites that do carry a lot of older ones. So if you can't find one, just ask on this forum and you may find a someone who has the variety and is willing to share.

By the way I am from Southern Long Island. Where in Eastern New York is your home?

Hey, like Big Bill Broonzy once said, all music's folk music, I ain't never heard no horse sing a song! Which reminds me, I need Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, the Weavers in general, Peter, Paul and Mary... Hilarious!

Leslie, I can't believe you, THANK YOU, this morning I said to myself, sheesh, I really need Santana, but I don't want one called Evil Ways, I'd love one called Soul Sacrifice or Black Magic Woman... Hurray! Hurray! And I'd like Get Back, too, hey, my playground, I can have more than one for an artist that I love!

Hi Charlotte, I'm in the Hudson Valley, and I have a lot to do before I even come close to qualifying as a novice. Which is why I say, you are so kind, Jan, but I would never take anything from any of you, I don't have anything to give back to you, which I know you're going to say doesn't matter, but I haven't even seen if I can put the bulb in the ground and grow a flower!! Giving any kind of bulb or cutting to me would be like leaving a baby on the train tracks.

I'm sure there will be reasons ranging from price to availability that will affect what I end up with, but now is like when you first get a catalogue and you go through and circle everything that hits your heart, and then you go back again and again and again until you get the order just right??

AND I GOOGLED JUMPING JACK FLASH BEFORE I POSTED, and nothing came up. The Stones are my heart and soul, so you know they're getting more than one!! Hurray!
