Im sorry it's not an amazing photo, but I'm referring to the long things. They're scattered about out front. They're literally just very long stems with a white bulb near the top, then a sharp tip at the very top. I can't find anything similar when I try to research by description.

Welcome! Welcome! spritely - I would research Hair Allium. And they go everywhere! You won't know for sure until they open up, but that would be my guess.

So we pulled one up and the bulb underground smells/looks like an onion. Friend has no boundaries and agrees it tastes like onion. Any chance its anything else?

@spritely I'll try to take a pic of my Hair Allium this weekend and see how it compares - they also smell like onion. This is what it would look like when it blooms if it is (looks like a bad hair day):

There are MANY Alliums, from various onions to chive to garlic, and many other wilder species. All Alliums are edible, though not all parts of each are palatable at all times/seasons.

Agreed on the "some sort of allium for sure." Ginny has a very solid notions as the hair alliums do have that bit of a spike above the bloom. Timing of post also suggest alliums. I'm thinking you'll be see that "bad hair day" thing very soon.
