I am a farmer's adviser to the island people who work in organic home gardens and small farms in the Maldives Islands.
In recent times the need to grow vegetables and fruits increase due to awareness created by the Maldivian, to improve home garden income, need to introduce fruit and vegetable in diets of women and children going to school.
Our soil here is calcareous and sandy in nature, pH 7.5 to 8.3, low in humus. We get rainfall eight months in a year with 1200 mm to 1500 mm. The groundwater table is shallow about five feet. Temperature range from 25C to 33C. Its island situation close to the sea and humidity 70% to 85%.
Home gardener uses soil amendment such as organic compost and ready-made fertiliser as recommended to correct pH.
Hope you can advise on the grape variety(s) and relevant root stock we can try here in Maldives.
