I saved this plant, someone was going to throw it out. It looks like a bird of paradise or a banana leave plant.

Agree, perhaps a Strelitzia, (could be S nicolai), or also highly possible for a Ravenala seedling. since the transition from small leaves to a large size are quite contrast, also lacks of reddish on midrib as we use to see in S reginae.
but not a true banana or any Musa sp I believes
