I planted two dwarf plum trees in very large pots a few weeks ago and they look horrible! I do not know what to do. We planted them in a cactus, palm, and citrus soil mixed with a little potting soils for fruits and vegetables. We used perlite, but probably not enough. The soil does not seem to be drying out thoroughly or quickly enough. We drilled holes in the bottom of the pot but maybe we should do more? Because the soil is staying on the moister side, we are watering less frequently, but the leaves look terrible. They are curling and getting yellow tips. There are also circular holes in the leaves. Something seems to be eating them. I was reading about spider mites and I did notice fine webs on both trees. I cannot see any critters though. Well, other than the weird bugs we noticed when lifting the pots to drill more holes! Underneath the pot were many many little tan weird looking bugs. We washed them away. Please help! We really want success with our little trees and we think there may be multiple problems going on. Thank you in advance!

Yellowing of the leaves could be a sign of too much water. You may want to add more holes in the bottoms of the pots. Can you post pictures?

As for the bugs we'll need to see pictures of them, as well, in order to help determine the problem.

Adding a question of two... What sort of sun situation were they in when you got them? Full sun, shaded? Were they mail order? If they were shaded, did you put them directly into the sun or are they shaded now?
