Bloomed this year.

Clearly not true to name.

It does look like an Itoh hybrid. It is an early bloomer.

Anyone have a guess as to what it might be?

It sounds like Bannister was maybe in a hurry to liquidate that year. Lots of mixups from what it sounds like. It does look too dark to be it, doesn't it? It is said to be apricot fading to yellow..

Still very pretty!

The leaves and shape of the bush make me think it is an Itoh.

Take pictures as it fades, maybe the fade pattern will make an ID easier. Pretty color, for sure, but there are a few that look like that when they first open. Plus, since it's such a new one in your garden, the bloom might be a lot fuller when mature so any guesses at this stage could be completely wrong. Might be a good idea to contact them by email, not to berate because of the wrong plant (since they've retired from selling it would be a wasted effort, anyway) but to ask which other Itohs they had in the field that it could be. Actually, if you attach those pics I bet they'd be able to give an id right away....
I ordered Sonoma Welcome from them as well. Think mine has a bud on it this spring, none last spring, so I'm wondering what I got, too!
