Ive been wanting to start a garden for weeks ,but i dont want to spend money on something that wont grow. Do you know any good fruits, flowers or veggies that might be good to grow in clay ?
Thumb of 2017-05-23/jovanni678/d5307e we are going to soon cut the bush to let in some sun or should we leave it ?

Name: Philip Becker
Fresno California (Zone 8a)
Hot loving veges. Squash. Tomatoes. Peppers. Okra. Eggplant.
For insects and 10 to 20 percent shade. Spray them with food grade, kaolin clay water mix. It's double duty spray. Read up on it.

Where abouts in Georgia?

What can you tell us about the garden site?
Shade? Clay/sand?

What's growing there now?
Bermuda grass?

If you have a new construction site, never had turf put down, red clay... You could grow pretty much anything...

Turf would make it harder.

There's a lot of time for summer vegetables... And summer annuals.

If you want to start stuff from seed...
Try beans, cow peas, corn, watermelons, cantelopes, okra....

Does any of that sound like something that you would eat?

There's still time to grow peppers and tomatoes from seed, but they're really not the best plants to grow from seed for the beginner.... They're sold at all the stores...

Flowers easily grown from seed include zinnia, cosmos, tithonia, sunflowers 4 o'clock.
Avoid most morning glories... But moonflowers are safe, and heavenly blue....

You will want to purchase lantana and salvia plants.

Oh yeah, what about deer and rabbits?
They can be awfully destructive in a veggie patch, and... Like flowers too....

Click the link at the bottom of my post and check out some of what I grow here in ga.
