I live in the Chicago suburbs. I have the following plant sprouting up all over my yard. I discovered it in my vegetable garden in the bare dirt. The seeds are reddish brown, smooth and shiny like popcorn husks. They look like a little crab claw. They eventually split open to reveal a fuzzy inside, like a dandelion or pussy willow. They seem to send out long vines underground, and then pop up small bunches of spiky stalks of reddish-green leaves. The stalks get taller and thicker the longer they are left to grow. It's everywhere, and it's really hard to remove from the vegetable garden. Can you help? Thanks so much.
