How does one eliminate them on your website? Or do they even come from your website, as I did not notice them on my tablet or computer?

You can go into your profile and eliminate them. Go to your settings and you'll see: Disable ads on the site? Click that.

I went and looked in all sections of "my profile", and I did not see anything resembling that statement, "Disable ads..."

Hi Evelyn, click on your profile. Then see Change site preferences. There is a list of things, and the one you want is the 8th one down. It should be there.

Once you have 100 plant database contribution then that option becomes available.

I didn't know that. Thanks, Jon! What an incentive to get busy and add to the database!

Ohhhh, now I get it. I had better get some more plants! I thought I already had too many. I suppose I will have to take a picture of every single plant that I already have, photogenic or not! (Although I do my best to make them nice...)!! Sticking tongue out

They don't have to be photos of your own plants, Evelyn. You can photograph plants at a park, botanical garden, your favorite plant nursery, or wherever else you see plants.

Does this mean that you have to put in plants that are not already listed, or can you contribute your own pictures of existing plants? Confused

It does not have to be photos, Jon wrote "plant database contribution" so even adding details to your plants or any other entries that need to be fleshed out. maybe it's missing the height, bloom color, optimal zones, etc. Click the "Edit data details" to get started. Thumbs up

You can also put in your own photos on plants that are already listed. You can put reviews of plant places in the green pages. There are lots of ways to earn acorns, and extra privileges!

Comments are also appreciated, I like to read through those when contemplating a new plant or having trouble with an existing one. I find adding to the database is a good evening project, especially for those entries that don't have a lot of information. My preferred plan of attack: sit at computer with my favorite garden books and a glass of wine, open My List and systematically start going through to flesh out growing information and add a personal comment relevant to my gardening region. I do like to have at least one photo from my own garden to add to the comment section of My List, which I can then compare to other photos in the database. I usually keep two tabs of the garden site open and flip between them.

I used to keep a Word document to inventory my plants, then realized I was duplicating my efforts and opted to just use this site as my primary inventory. It has worked well for me, plenty of ways to customize it, and I no longer feel a need to print a hard copy. Poke around at other members' lists to see how they are using that feature.
I want to live in a world where the chicken can cross the road without its motives being questioned.
