Just got rid of my above ground pool. I now want to get some plants, flowers and some lawn back. But, there's a lot of sand underneath. Can I mix dirt with the sand? Can anything grow with the sand still there?

Welcome!

First, can you tell us, generally speaking, where you live and what your zone is?

Is the sand there because of the pool or does your area have sandy soil? Sandy soil is not fun to work with but can be done. If your area, unlike mine, has sandy soil, try calling your local Master Gardeners or Ag Extension for advice. They should be familiar with your area.

Hope someone else here will be able to give you advice.

I got rid of a pool some years ago which left a sandy spot. I just sprigged grass into it and it did fine. The soil underneath was clay and the sand was only about 2" deep. Unless your sand is a lot deeper than that, you shoould be able to plant whatever you like.

Hi Spmiles1028! Welcome!

How long was the pool up? How long since it was used? The reason I ask is because if the pool was done correctly granulated heavy duty nutsedge herbicide was mixed into the sand at a pretty high rate. You might have some residual effects on plants. How long that could last I do not know.
May you have a joyful day!
