Really need to know where you live.
Hear in fresno ca. For jack-o-lantern pumpkins, they plant them on July 4th.
I would plant them, a month, pluse, the mature date, before your first frost date.

Yep, Philip (I spelled that right, right?) has it right. Smiling You need to count backwards from when you want them ripe and plant accordingly.

We had a friend who maintained a pumpkin patch -- he just tilled under the old pumpkins and let them re-seed themselves. Worked well. That doesn't really answer your question, but I'd just pop them in.
