Distinctively shaped plant appeared in a border this spring.
I can't even find the words to describe it! The leaves alternate, but there was no stem (leaves emerging from the ground) and they are all in the same plane. When I search in keys, none of the options seem to fit.
I haven't dug it up to see what sort of root it has.
Until this week it has had only foliage, but now there is a single stem which looks likely to bear flower(s).

Welcome!

I can't see the flower buds all that clearly but it looks like a daylily (Hemerocallis). They do have that leaf arrangement when a single plant ("fan").
