The seeds need to be harvested when they are mature and cold stratified.

The easiest way to grow Daylily from seed is to harvest the seeds from the pods (the pods should open by themselves and the seeds should be dark colored). Save the seed until there is about a month of cold weather left then plant them outside. Otherwise, store the seed in the refrigerator on a damp paper towel sealed in a ziplock bag. It takes about 1 month of cold before the seeds are ready to germinate.

Different seeds have different germination requirements. If they are seeds you collected, you will have to do some research to figure that out.

For instance, Canna seeds need to be harvested when the pod is dry, then soaked in warm water for 24 hours. After planting the seeds in your seed trays, cover than with plastic wrap and put them on a heat mat.
