Please help! Just had a landscaper trim all the lower branches back to the trunk on my lovely, mature Bay Laurel, about half the way up. Will new growth emerge? Or is it doomed to forever living a life as a leggy tree?

Welcome!

I think all the places that branches were cut off will sprout with lots of new branches. Your tree will eventually be full again.

I actually like the way it looks. But of course, I didn't see it before the pruning. Smiling

Sarah ! Boink !!! Just had another though. It looks kind of shadeey where bay is. So, it may take some time to bush back out.
I'm taking it, that you want a bush ?😕?
If so ! Cut it off where you want it to branch out. Like i said, ya kant kill the dude. 😃 Thumbs up
Give it a few weeks, see how it does, then decide.
I just love getting and giving thumbs-up ! Thanks nodding

What!! Cut it off?? Crying

Its a beautiful plant. Pruning lower branches is one thing but beheading a tree is never a good idea. It will never grow into that natural beautiful shape again.

@Daisyl
Doesn't a persons desired look in a tree or bush, determine the way they prune it ???
All i did was gave options.
