My knockout roses wee beautiful last year but have struggled this year. They budded in the spring but the buds never fully bloomed. They turned brown and died. A friend told me to try cutting the bushes way back to see if the needed to rejuvenate. When I did that I was able to see the stems much better. After doing a little research I am now worried that they may have rose rosette. What do you think?

No, it doesn't look like it.

Rose Rosette Disease will present itself as a red witch's broom growth. It is very strange looking and very obvious when you see it.

Do a google images search for rose rosette disease and you'll see what I mean.

I think your roses look quite healthy.

Prune to shape up. Get rid of anything dead. If there graphed, cut any growth below graph off. Below graph growth will not be the same rose, its wild.
Anything i say, could be misrepresented, or wrong.
