Found sprouting in a flower bed (and even though it looks a bit familiar like something common I've seen in the past) I'm drawing a blank. Blinking The area where it's growing was void of plants when we moved here a year ago and I transplanted Epidendrum and Pentas into the bed a couple of months ago and a few days ago noticed this single plant popping up ... seeds may have come in the mulch.

stone, it sure does look a lot like Datura metel; something I've never grown and probably won't keep because our dogs like to taste stuff!

Noooo!

Really doubt they could possibly be dumb enough to eat enough to affect them.

It's so pretty!

Don't see any seedling images for Datura metel in the database. Those are very nice images; please consider adding them. Thumbs up

@stone @greene I had forgotten about this and was weeding in the bed where it's growing so I pulled the plant and potted it up today ... do you still think it looks like Datura metel?

Tiffany, thank you so much! I have no idea why I uploaded those pictures to the D. metel entry D'Oh! I guess I just wasn't thinking! I've submitted proposals to move my pictures over to the general database entry for Datura. Smiling

I hope it is D. metel. That's "the pretty one" with the scented, ruffly purple flowers. I've gotten seeds for that so many times over the yrs but have never gotten a plant to grow. Never seen for sale.

Tiffany, if it survives and is D. metel I will send it to you if you want it ... I am so limited on space to plant things in the garden and I'm overrun with container plants too! Green Grin! I'll keep you posted on how it does.

Oh, what a kind thought! TY so much! IDK if I have room for that now either. I just put a classified ad on here to try to downsize enough to fit everything back inside this winter.

LOL, I've been constantly downsizing for about 6 or 7 years now ... at least I've been trying. My husband came home from a motorcycle ride with his buddies yesterday afternoon and said, "Hey I saw a truck along side Babcock Road with people selling some interesting plants ... you want to take a ride back up there and take a look?" He knows me when it comes to plants. Green Grin! I ended up spending $40 bucks and got the following, all nice sized plants:

2 Royal Poinciana trees (one for me, one for my sister)
2 Hibiscus shrubs (1 pink flower, 1 white)
1 Aubtilon shrub

So ... me downsizing? Not so much! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing It was a mexican couple, probably from the Miami area (that was the area code on the phone number on the side of their vehicle with their nursery name) and she told me they are up here on weekends every couple of weeks so I'll probably go back again.

I uploaded pic's of the Abutilons (Callianthe) to the database yesterday. I already have lots of Hibiscus photos in the database so don't plan to add more but the new pink one had a couple of buds that opened today and I like it!

Gorgeous! That's more of what I meant, pics posted in discussions. During summer, I don't have much time to watch new pics come into database.

Thanks Tiffany, I really like it a lot. The other shrub I bought is the same type of Hibiscus and is supposed to have white blooms; I think there's at least one small bud on it and I do hope the flowers are white!
