Could someone please identify this? It was on my back porch when I bought the house six weeks ago. It looked dead, but I kept watering it and it has little flowers on it now. It looks like it has a trunk. Thanks!

I think you're right! I thought before that the leaves looked cabbage-y. It's so weird. It was in a pot with pansies all around it (that looked dead also). Do you know why someone would have cabbage in a pot. Is it just for the flowers? Is it edible? Sorry, I clearly have zero gardening experience. Thanks so much!!

It may be what's left of a Flowering Kale.

These plants are sold in the fall because they look great all winter, usually alongside the Mums. Usually discarded when they start to bloom in the spring. Pansies are also sold in the fall to have blooms over winter.
