My friend has this mysterious plant in her garden and none of us can identify it. Would anyone here know what it is? Thank you for your help!

What an interesting looking plant! I have no clue what it is, but it would help our experts if you could post a picture of the whole plant plus close views of leaf-junctions and tell anything more you can about it.

I wanted to say fig or mulberry but neither seems correct. Need to see more detail and photos of the entire plant. Thank You!

Could be; Mulberry leaves are highly variable. This one is not glossy like the mystery plant so possibly a hybrid.

The shape of the Broussonetia is the closest I've seen of the possibilities I've looked at, but it has teeth on the leaf edges whereas the ID plant does not.

I can see that the leaf shape does looks a little like Broussonetia papyrifera
However there the similarity ends!
Broussonetia leaves are not shiny...they are flat matt.
To the touch they are soft, as the back of the leaf is covered in millions of soft hairs.
Even the branches are soft and hairy.

Even on the same tree the leaves can be very varied in shape. see...

I love the shape of your leaf and hope someone can id it accurately for you.
