Succulents are often cut and re-propagated w/o letting them have a chance to act more like a larger entity, with side branches along the lower lengths of stem after they have discarded the lower foliage. I accelerated the process on this individual by removing many of the leaves well before they would have fallen off to use to make more plants and to be more easily able to observe the side branches.

3/4/17: leaning funkily after reduced exposure from winter. Points of growth that will be the side branches are very small but visible at a couple nodes.

Kalanchoe pinnata can get too tall to be a reasonably sized potted plant, so off with its' head when that happens. The removed piece can take root & the stump usually makes 2-4 new tops.
