I think it would be very helpful if the forums dedicated to a single species (daylily, iris, rose, etc.) would have a stickee that explains their often foreign-language. I have no idea what ploidy means, all the various iris abbreviations are a mystery to me, it even took me a while to figure out a scape is really just a bloom stalk. I don't often delve too far into those forums, but I do occasionally have a question or follow a thread and it would be helpful if there was a cheat-sheet at the top that one could review to be a bit better versed on what people are actually talking about.

That would be useful information to include in the front page for each of their databases, and then we could simply link to those from the sidebar of each forum.

When you enter the daylily forum there is a box over on the right that says "Welcome to the Daylilies Forum" it contains a link to the AHS terms and definitions. That box contains a lot of helpful info, but I think a lot of people never look at it.

Exactly, the AHS Daylily Dictionary of terms:

For a non-daylily person such as myself, the AHS web site is a bit overwhelming. I did look at the various forms of -ploid and found this to be non-essential information for my casual growing. And I'll continue to use the term flower stalks which apparently is acceptable.

I will make a point to review both the stickees and sidebar links for specific flower forums to better educate myself.
