Hi, not the best picture,but for 30 mins, I've been trying to match the wing with any swallowtail, and none seem to make sense.

I'm in mid Michigan, I FOUND it sort of resting on a crabapple tree, then an ornamental cherry tree before.

Missing bits of his her wing too

Your butterfly is a Red Spotted Purple. Not sure if it's a male or female though.

I had a red-spotted purple lay eggs in my crabapple tree. They use both apple and cherry. If you watch it and kind of remember the general area it was, you may be able to find eggs to raise.
