Seen in strawberry crowns the past couple of days. 90+F & 60-70 rh doesn't help; anybody ID these critters (~ 1 cm long) & what can safely be used to knock them down but not affect safe eating of fruit?

In my neck of the woods, we would call them tent catapillars. My experience has been that they leave as fast as they arrive.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and proclaiming...."WOW What a Ride!!" -Mark Frost
